why we love this

Somewhere stuck between a tribal jungle atmosphere and a nightmarish circus display, MDC III finds itself exploring the vast emotional corners of their made-up world. A totally intriguing listen.

about the record

After a first untitled EP came out in 2018, saxophonist Mattias De Craene (Nordmann) and drummers Simon Segers (De Beren Gieren/Absynthe Minded) and Lennert Jacobs (The Germans/Hong Kong Dong) – also known as MDCIII – released their blazing debut album “Dreamhatcher”.

Mattias Decraene’s sensationally strident sax parts elevate the hypnotising grooves of rhythmic duo Lennert Jacobs and Simon Segers to an ecstatic level. The almost alarming sound that stems from this combination leaves every listener in the kind of cinematic daze that would enthuse even directors like David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino.

Mattias and his two soulmates effortlessly marry the virtuosity and free spirit of jazz to influences from the other end of the musical spectrum: from tribal rhythms and roots to far out electronics.
