why we love this
Cave Acoustics leads one through a weaving maze of encounters that unsettle and unravel the listener more and more over time. Eerie, physical experiments in spatial acoustics.
about the cassette
This unique album was born from recordings made in caves and an abandoned Gothic church. Exploring the physicality and acoustics of these spaces, the album also delves into personal themes of family legacy and roots. Lucie's collaborative performance with their sisters in Výpustek Cave creates metallic crescendos and dynamic outpourings, while the track "Hair Score" processes the death of their mother through a swaying ritual with intense waves of sound.
The album features compositions like Christian Wolff's "Stones," utilizing textured sounds and rapid rhythms of stones being knocked together. "Inside the Ritual" captures a transformative experience for Lucie in Slovakia's forested hills, blending natural sounds with metallic clatter and reedy tones from a Japanese hichiriki flute. A calm, contemplative but also energetic and moving reflection of rare and unheard environments and Lucie’s reunion with the people and places that have shaped them.
