Like a scientist in a laboratory, Jan Jelinek dissects the molecular structure of jazz tracks, meticulously reassembling their fragments into entirely new, unrecognizable compositions. This is sampling elevated to an art form.
Jan Jelinek's Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records was originally released in 2001 on ~scape, existing only as a download. The title is derived from Jelinek's production approach on the album. Its tracks are built around second-long samples sourced from 1960s and 1970s jazz records and manipulated beyond recognition. He produced much of the album using an Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler.
