why we love this
There’s a clarity to the pieces, with notes stretching towards the sky in a silvery arc, almost transparent if you look closely enough. Against the trembles of an obfuscated rain, the album marks a strange stamp in time—not quite here or there, but occurring in a singular passing moment.
about the record
Rain and experimental music have had an interesting connection for decades. Today, rain—mainly occurring as heavy downpours or an enervating, endless loop in the age of climate catastrophe—has lost much of its inspiring quality. Perhaps as a reminder of the musical quality of rain, but with the understanding that it can now only be enjoyed in theory, Razen have titled their new album "Rain Without Rain."
The album is the captivating result of a one-night mobile studio field recording in an abandoned pedestrian tunnel in the center of Düsseldorf. It finds beauty through brutal(ist) means, featuring a recorder, oscillator, guitar amp, and reverberation, alongside two musicians and four microphones, blending early electronics with Early Music.<.p>
