why we love this
Swelling strings and choral vocals soar skyward, layered with throbbing, distorted percussion that roots the compositions firmly to the ground. The album uniquely juxtaposes celestial grandeur with an earthy, cavernous pull.
about the record
Polido has been fantasizing about the idea of free music throughout his artistic career. Free from restraints, logos, musical genres, and from the modern obsession with narratives, business plans, algorithms, and bubble-wrapped ideas for the comfort of those who can’t breathe without everything making sense. Hearing Smoke has none of that.
The album features eleven pieces about the future of the future of music. It is the result of years of study, research, and sound consolidation—sound as matter, mutating, transforming, absorbing everything around it, a shapeshifting entity connecting with the principles of freedom.
Trap, bass music, dubstep, ambient, hauntology, and contemporary music flow side by side here, without pushing or restrictions. Free of interpretation, you are free to feel or listen to whatever you want in Hearing Smoke. That’s free music for you. Not a hard concept, but something to enjoy, feel, and reflect on. This is what the future will sound like.
