about the book

In the day and age where millions of ideas from past and present are discoverable at our fingertips, many of us crave originality or yearn for creating something distinctly new. Yet Max Siedentopf postulates that maybe this is a counterproductive, ego-driven approach: why try to reinvent the wheel when there are so many great ideas already out there?

In Same, Same But Different, Max toys with this concept of reinvention by challenging the taboo of using the same idea twice. Over three years, he sent a series of ideas in the shape of drawings or short descriptions to over 50 international photographers for them to, quite literally, photograph the same idea. This photo series illustrates how, despite having the same starting point, the end results are a variegated reflection of each individual’s own artistic approach.
